We’re very excited to unveil a first artist at M for Montreal 2014 !
German pianist and composer, Nils Frahm is the talk of the avant garde and has built a steady reputation for his intimate, poignant piano recordings. Trained in classical music, Nils loves to enhance his music with unusual sonic elements like creaking floorboards, crackling static, a toilet brush on the piano strings, and more. Frahm’s heart lies in improvisation, in the magic of a moment where, inspired by the space and the audience, his fingers can create new compositions loosely based around his familiar melodies. The subtle, delicate music of his latest, Spaces, is a delight to the ears. For those of you that have caught him live (perhaps at his Canadian debut at MUTEK 2013) know how unforgettable and awe-inspiring his performances are.
The Berlin-based contemporary composer will take over Métropolis on Saturday November 22nd as part of Montreal Jazz Fest's Jazz All Year Round series. Opening the evening, New York band Dawn of Midi unleashes its fascinating, 100% acoustic electro-contemporary jazz.
