M for Montreal marks the start of its second decade with an 11th edition that set the bar higher than ever before. The event will welcome 200 music industry heavyweights and tastemakers coming from 15+ countries and showcase 100+ artists, including 30 from its Official Selection, over four days overflowing with incredible music, new business opportunities and relevant professional activities.
PLENTY OF GENRES
The event will kick off Wednesday, November 16 at Rialto Theater with a grand opening night with a folk-rock lineup featuring Martha Wainwright, presenting her brand new album Goodnight City, indie pop act Groenland and long time Patrick Watson henchman Joe Grass. At Rialto Hall on the second floor, audience will experience the stirring melodies of John Jacob Magistery, along with promising newcomer Aliocha and moody songstress Wilsen. Presented by MuchFACT and La Vitrine, both shows are accessible with 1 ticket.
Day two at M for Montreal will present its third edition of the Special SiriusXM Concert benefiting the Garage à musique de la Fondation du Dr Julien on Thursday, November 17 on the 24 Heures scene at Club Soda. Coming together for a cause dear to our hearts, the night will feature festive and exhilarating performances from Busty And The Bass, Brown and Heartstreets. Right next door at the Café Cléopâtre, Brendan Canning, founding member of Broken Social Scene, Michael Rault, the duo Tasseomancy, and more will take the stage in a show presented by Exclaim!.
Friday and Saturday, the music marathon officially starts with 20+ shows across the city. Friday, November 18 at Metropolis, hip hop fans should not miss this epic night with performances by Rymz, WordUP! Battles, Les Anticipateurs, Shash’U, and Lary Kidd. In addition, artists such as Poirier Migration Soundsystem, Baauer, Darcys, Bear Mountain, New Fries and much more will take over a dozen venues. Saturday, November 19 will start at 2:15pm with the free FrancoM SiriusXM showcase featuring Yann Perreau, I.D.A.L.G. and Zen Bamboo and more. In the evening, the city will warm up to the sounds of NOBUNNY, Tommy Kruise, Beat Market, Caspian, Men I Trust, the new sensation Gabrielle Shonk and more.
A CHANGING INDUSTRY
During its four days, M for Montreal will become the center of the music industry through its enriching conversations, engaging networking activities and real business opportunities. The state of the festival bubble, breaking new markets, the collaboration between artists and brands, and metadata as a tool to discover new talents are all subjects that will be tackled into the nine panels proposed this year.
Always striving to better connect and create lasting outcomes for its participants, the Speed Smooze will allow different professionals to break the ice with key actors of the industry. Speaking of, the event’s delegation will include industry heavyweights such as Nabil Ayers (4AD, United States), Crispin Hearn (Coda Music Agency, United Kingdom), Robby Morris (Matador Records, United States), and Anika Mottershaw (Bella Union, United Kingdom).
